A hydraulic, electric or cable drive, which can be connected to a winch, can be used to open and close the hatch cover. Bulk carriers typically use a side hatch locking system, while general cargo carriers use a hatch opening system.

Common hatch covers:

A. Single arm hatch cover or Close the cane

Here are the most common types of single shot MacGregor deck hatch covers.

Above the cover of a MacGregor-type single-deck hatch is a steel hatch cover consisting of several panels (covers) on wheels that move along rails on either side of the hatch.

The single lever hatch cover is designed so that when opened with a pull rope, the panels flex vertically and cross the boat in front or behind the hatch.

B. Side cover of a sliding tailgate or a sliding tailgate

Next is a steel hatch cover with two covers on the wheels, which can move on the rails on the hatch sill, and when opening each cover rotates in the opposite direction in a horizontal position.

C. Rollite hatch cover or close stick roll

Next is a steel hatch cover, consisting of several covers rolled up along the hatch, which are in a hot state when the cover is opened.

D. Collapsible hatch cover or Collapsible post cover

Underneath the steel hatch cover, on either side of the hatch logo, there are two or more roll-up covers that run on the rails, so both covers fold up vertically on the rails when opened.

E. Stacked tailgate cover

Among these are steel hatch covers, consisting of two lids, one lid resting horizontally above the other lid at the side or rear of the hatch when open.
